Job Summary/Essential Functions: We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position:
The Associate Director of Campus Recreation/Outdoor Programs (ADCR) reports to the Director of Campus Recreation, serves a leadership role for the Campus Recreation department and assumes primary management of the planning, operation and evaluation of EPIC Adventures, EWU’s comprehensive outdoor adventure and student leadership program. As a leader within Student Affairs and the university, the ADCR models Eastern’s values and mission.
Administrative: Under the guidance of the Director of Campus Recreation, the ADCR plays a leading role in defining Campus Rec goals and objectives to facilitate EWU student engagement, retention, and success. The ADCR manages the development, execution, and evaluation of EPIC programs, manages day-to-day program budgets, and designs/implements comprehensive risk management plans. The ADCR drives internal and external communications/brand management and oversees the equipment purchases and life-cycle management. Evaluating staff performance and providing timely feedback is an ongoing function of this position.
Field: The ADCR is primarily an administrative position, but it requires time in the field to train staff and to directly oversee activities with potential for significant objective hazard. The amount of required field time will vary based on program needs. All field tasks will involve evaluating staff performance while providing timely feedback. A high level of physical fitness is required.

This position, during the course of university employment, will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value. The position may involve unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults and children under the age of 18. Required Discipline(s) for Degree: Recreation Management, Outdoor Education, or closely related field
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in recreation management, outdoor education, or closely related field
Two years of professional administrative experience in outdoor recreation, outdoor education, or related field
Extensive, documented field experience in a leadership capacity
Current W-EMT or Wilderness First Responder certification
Advanced skills (train-the-trainer level) in at least two of the following activities: backpacking/expedition, rock climbing/mountaineering, whitewater rafting/kayaking, backcountry skiing/ski mountaineering
Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in recreation management, outdoor recreation, or closely related field
Additional advanced skills (train-the-trainer level) three or more of the following activities: backpacking/expedition, rock climbing/mountaineering, whitewater rafting/kayaking, backcountry skiing/ski mountaineering
Instructor-trainer/course-provider status with national certification granting organizations (e.g. SPI provider with AMGA, whitewater course provider with ACA, WFR instructor, etc.)
Leave No Trace Master Educator certification
