Living Allowance: $285/ week. Housing may be available at site
AmeriCorps Award: Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $3047.50 (pre-tax).

Title of Position: Biological Studies Stewards
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.
SIPP in partnership with the Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site/ National Park Service are seeking an intern who will assist the park the removal of invasive plants that will help to protect sensitive wetlands that are the home to a diverse community including rare plants, bird and reptiles. The intern will also assist with integrated pest management including mapping of native ash tress to prepare for the invasive emerald ash borer and the mitigation of pests from at least two historic buildings.
Position Responsibilities will include:
Invasive plant management
Native Ash mapping
Apple orchard maintenance
Natural resource interpretation
Integrated pest management
Work at the front desk and inside the company store
Major in a field related to the biological sciences (e.g. wildlife and fisheries science, biology, forestry, environmental science, etc.) or education
Minimum of 2.5 GPA
Juniors/ Seniors preferred
Valid Driver’s license
Ability to work independently or part of a team
Excellent written and oral communications
Must be able to pass a criminal history background check
Experience working with Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with global positioning systems
Spanish language skills
Experience in preparing and delivering educational programs
