Locations: Salida, CO or Durango, CO
Status: Seasonal, Full-time, Exempt
Start/end date: April 1st, 2019 – November 2019
Wages: $500 – 620 / week DOQ, DOE
Benefits: Food provided while in the field, uniforms, personal protective equipment, 8-week Crew Leader training including U.S. Forest Service recognized S-212 Chainsaw training, and other development opportunities. PTO and Health Benefit Eligible.

Southwest Conservation Corps:
The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a non-profit, AmeriCorps-affiliated organization, whose mission is to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities and the environment. SCC engages motivated youth and young adults, ages 14 – 30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects on public lands. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, invasive species removal, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation and local environmental service projects.
Our programs focus on place-based learning, life skills development, appreciation of diversity, civic responsibility and career development. SCC also provides an opportunity for Corps Members to learn about the local environment, environmental issues and introduces individuals to recreation and resource management careers.
Southwest Conservation Corps’ Crew Leaders perform many roles and are the key to our program’s success. The position is multi-faceted and demanding, but with opportunity for enormous rewards. Successful candidates will demonstrate resourcefulness, effective communication skills, excellent judgement, maturity, initiative, professionalism, and the desire to devote themselves to a crew experience where the needs of others are placed above oneself. The Crew Leader position requires, mentorship, patience, technical aptitude, focus on efficiency, and a high level of comfort in the outdoors.
