Job Description

OUR COMPANY – NCOAE is an organization that designs and delivers handcrafted outdoor, and adventure based educational experiences promoting personal growth, professional development, and stewardship in our communities and the natural environment.

WE WANT – We are seeking our next Director of Program Operations and would like the candidate to be a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, result-driven individual who can take the vision of the Executive Director and steer the organization to new heights. This person will lead and oversee the continuity, consistency, and outcomes of NCOAE programs. They will also embody and promote our core values of challenge by choice, collaboration, compassion, innovation, proactiveness, and resiliency.

The Director of Program Operations will be responsible for providing leadership for NCOAE’s educational programming and will:
● Lead the directors of NCOAE’s outdoor education programming, wilderness medicine education and training, and emergency medicine education and training.
● Hire, train, mentor, manage, evaluate, and coach staff.
● Create, and mange department budgets.
● Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and periodically monitor, update, and create them to improve workflows and student experiences.
● Assist with developing annual strategic goals, implementation strategies and planning.
● Provide oversight, guidance, and administration all risk management programs, including ensuring compliance, training, and collaboration with staff on risk management issues.
● Guide and manage the safety program, including conducting risk assessments, creating preventative and contingency plans, and administering investigations of injury, illness, and near-miss incidents.
● Guide and manage all current and future accreditations, licenses and permits.
● Manage Custom Programs by generating and negotiating custom program proposals and agreements, assigning program staff, and evaluating programming.

Most importantly, this person must be a solid team member who can facilitate positive and productive work experiences, and can contribute to maintaining safe, fun, and engaging client experiences.

WE REQUIRE
● Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education, Outdoor Recreation, Business Administration, or related field
● Minimum of three (3) years prior experience working in a leadership role
● Demonstrated competency and skills in risk management
● Excellent communication and people skills, including oral and written communication skills, public presentation skills, and the ability to train/demonstrate
● Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
● Current CPR certification (willingness to obtain immediately after hiring is acceptable)
● Language fluency: English required, Spanish preferred
