The Southwest Conservation Corps, in collaboration with the Dolores River Restoration Partnership (DRRP) is advertising for an invasive species Strike Team Crew Leader. The DRRP is in year 9 of an ambitious effort to treat invasive plant species along 175 miles of the river corridor. Southwest Conservation Corps’ Crew Leaders perform many roles and are the key to our program’s success. The position is multi-faceted and demanding, but with opportunity for enormous rewards. Successful candidates will demonstrate resourcefulness, effective communication skills, excellent judgement, maturity, initiative, and professionalism.

The Strike Team will typically work four (M-Th), 10 hour days per week. The leader will join the team in July as an AmeriCorps Member for 8 weeks to complete training, monitoring, and mapping of invasive weeds using Collector for ArcGIS along the Dolores River. This portion of the season will be focused on developing Crew Leader skills as well as prepping for the Colorado Qualified Supervisor herbicide applicator exam (if necessary).

The leader will then transition into a full-time salaried crew leader position for the fall, supervising two crew members. This project component will entail maintenance of tamarisk treatments by treating re-sprouts and secondary weeds with various spraying equipment. Additional restoration activities will include active revegetation (planting/seeding) of native riparian species and helping with DRRP volunteer events. Recording and reporting of accomplishments will be necessary. Related tasks may be assigned as needed. This position requires extensive field time on foot in the elements, and extensive time wearing a backpack sprayer. Safe operation of BLM, SCC vehicles, and selected equipment will be necessary.
