Job Description

Wild Whatcom is a local non-profit organization dedicated to fostering lifelong connections to nature through outdoor education programs offered to all age groups. We provide experiential learning opportunities that inspire participants to explore, connect, and serve, while building healthy relationships with nature, community, and self.

Wild Whatcom seeks a qualified candidate for Explorers Club Development Manager to join our organizational management team. Explorers Club (EC) cultivates naturalist knowledge, sense of adventure, earth skills, and a community stewardship ethic for youth in grades 2-12. Outings for the EC program occur monthly on weekends during the school year, serving up to 13 youth per group in a cohort-style model. The Explorers Club Development Manager will work in a co-manager team with the EC Logistics Manager, to ensure program quality, growth, and implementation.

This is a part-time position, with an approximate range of 15-23 hours/week depending on funding for the 2020-21 school year. This position may also be subject to seasonal variability, with more hours in peak seasons (Fall and Spring) and fewer hours in low seasons (Winter and Summer). Additionally, this position may be able to supplement managerial work with field work in the Explorer’s Club Program (dependent upon experience).

Potential applicants must be available beginning September, 2020 for orientation and training. Compensation begins at $16/hour, with the possibility of increased pay with additional duties and experience.

*3+ years experience in a leadership role, preferably within the environmental/outdoor education field
*Supervisory experience in a collaborative environment.
*Experience expanding equity and inclusion to ensure broader program access to diverse populations.
*A motivated self-starter with energy, flexibility, creativity, a sense of humor, and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed.
*Ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
*Strong organizational skills, including planning and program development.
*Superior interpersonal and written communications skills.
*Professional work habits (punctual, responsive, organized, attention to detail).
*Youth development or outdoor education experience.
*Excellent budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting.
*Knowledge of fundraising strategies, grant writing, and donor development/relations specific to non-profit organizations is strongly preferred.
*Competency with Google systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and social media.

Responsibilities

*Work in conjunction with the Explorers Club Logistics Manager to oversee and support Explorers Club mentors, participants, families, and internal program content.
*Work with the Program Director to develop program goals, metrics, and feedback tools, consistent among all EC programs, for communication of program outcomes and successes
*Work with the Logistics Manager to continue to build, review, refine and update curriculum to create consistent experiences for all EC programs
*Maintain database of curriculum/tools/tips for field staff to use
*Develop and coordinate community partnerships in consult with Program Director and Logistics Manager
*Manage annual participant registration and retention data
*Lead the development of new programs within the larger EC Program
*Guide program implementation including, but not limited to, registration and community outreach
*Work with the Logistics Manager to synthesize schedules across EC programs to produce a cohesive and sustainable staffing and program delivery schedule
*Provide ongoing support for field staff in conjunction with Logistics Manager
*Organize and create systems for new field staff orientation with the support of the Program Director
*Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to staff in partnership with the Logistics Manager and Program Director
*Plan and/or facilitate staff meetings
*Assess hiring needs and participate in process with Program Director
*Provide administrative support for program communications with parents, including, but not limited to, maintaining program websites, maintaining program’s Google calendar and Drive documents
*Support the Crisis Management Team to provide communication with parents in the event of an emergency relating to EC programming
*Work with the Program Director and Executive Director to financially manage the EC program: creating annual budgets, developing outreach and promotion plans, making decisions regarding financial assistance, etc.
*Participate in organizational team meetings as needed to communicate program successes and learnings; work with other program managers and coordinators to ensure consistency for field staff
