Other Outdoor Kayak Manager
We are seeking a self-motivated, organized and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Manager of the kayaking branch of Outer Island Excursions (OIX). OIX is based on Orcas Island in the heart of the San Juan Islands of Washington State. People from all over the world come to this beautiful region to experience the great outdoors. We offer authentic wildlife experiences including kayaking, fishing, whale watching, and much more. The tour season is from March through October. Kayak Naturalists independently lead kayaking tours off the north shore of Orcas Island to Point Doughty State Park and around Sucia Island State Park. These tours focus on the coastal ecosystem and intertidal zone. We rent kayaks and canoes directly on site as well as offer the option to deliver them anywhere on Orcas Island.
The Kayak manager is responsible for coordinating and executing pre-season prep, post-season breakdown and daily operations including scheduling as well as leading independent tours. The kayak manager will be expected to oversee and direct a team of ~ 5 kayak guides. Scheduling will involve assigning tour guides to daily standard tours as well as taking care of any maintenance and necessary projects to uphold the functionality of the kayak station. Maintenance and projects will often include small repairs of the kayaks. The kayak manager will be expected to keep the kayak team motivated and positive throughout the busy touring season.
OIX is a dynamic team; beyond the overall duty to manage the kayak station, the kayak manager should expect to help wherever is needed during the tour season. This includes working as a deckhand on Whale Watches and helping in the office, which involves answering phones.
