Climb & Mountaineer Outdoor Recreation Coordinator
The Outdoor Recreation Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for the coordination, implementation, development, collaboration and daily operations of all aspects of the Idaho State University Outdoor Adventure Center consisting of the Campus Recreation climbing wall, Sport Sciences and Physical Education academic classes, and supporting the Outdoor Adventure Center Director in all other programs related to the Outdoor Adventure Center.
Assist the Outdoor Adventure Center Director in the administration, implementation, and supervision of the Outdoor Adventure Center and staff to include: academic classes, adventure trips, fundraisers, climbing wall, rental shop, retail, yurts, challenge course and outdoor equipment.
Directly manage and oversee the ISU Campus Recreation Climbing Wall.
Develop and update policies and procedures for the climbing wall including manuals, inspections, and program reports.
Compile, prepare, and maintain records for the Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation such as budget, participation numbers, rental reports, injuries, and incident reports.
Develop program climbing wall facilitator manuals, trainings and workshops, including a comprehensive staff training program and training modules.
Responsible for inventory and maintaining climbing program equipment.
Coordinate maintenance work for all areas of responsibility including specific equipment maintenance and inventory.
Assist in the development and implementation of risk management protocols for areas of responsibility within Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation.
Work evening and weekends when necessary regarding Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation Climbing Wall events.
Assist with the marketing and promotion of the Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation Climbing Wall.
Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, mentoring, and evaluating Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation Climbing Wall staff.
Evaluate Outdoor Adventure Center and Campus Recreation Climbing Wall programs and services to determine overall effectiveness, satisfaction, and recommend possible changes as deemed appropriate.
Prepare written communications such as monthly reports, annual reports, participation, statistics, etc.
Establish and maintain working relationships throughout the university community and maintain relationships with public and individual entities.
-Current Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) certification or greater from the AMGA or PCIA.
-Current Wilderness First Responder Certificate
-Current CPR certification.
-Valid driver’s license.
-Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with, or without accommodation.
-Master’s degree in outdoor education, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, sports management, recreation administration, or a related field.
-Previous supervisory experience in higher education and campus recreation desired. Prefer experience developing quality student programs and implementing risk management policies for safe facilities and recreation programs.
-Demonstrated ability to provide instruction and possess technical proficiency in a variety of outdoor applications including kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting, etc.
-Experience training, hiring, supervising, and evaluating employees.
-Experience with event/fundraiser organization, marketing and promotion.
-Additional outdoor certifications such as avalanche education, swift water rescue, ski instructor, canoe/kayak/raft/sup, challenge course, mountain biking, LNT, climbing wall instructor, etc.
