Program Overview and Job Summary:
KSS offers a range of programs that provide a balance of hands-on science activities, field-based exploration, and adventure programming. All programs are based upon a theme including but not limited to aquatic ecology, forest ecology, earth science, snow science, health, and leadership.

The Summer Programs Nurse works with our day, residential, and teen leadership programs. The Summer Programs Nurse is the primary caregiver for each child while on KSS campus and is responsible for planning, administering, and documenting all staff and child health-related issues. Fellow staff, children, and parents will rely on the Summer Programs Nurse to keep a safe and healthy community throughout the Summer.

Our ideal candidate will focus on the following essential duties and responsibilities:
• Attend to the illnesses or injuries of both program participants and staff;
• Supervise and maintain high standards of health and safety, and follow Risk Management policies in all activities;
• Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications to program participants and staff per written protocol at designated times;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of medication administration and illness/injury care delivered to campers and staff per written protocol;
• Report illness, injury, and abuse to proper authorities when necessary per written protocol;
• Manage all documentation and protocol in relation to Colorado State Child Care Licensure;
• Maintain a watchful presence to the overall wellness of campers and staff;
• Work directly with the Camp Physician, EMS, fire department, and hospital, either by phone or in-person, when needed to attend to the illness/injury of a participant or employee;
• Maintain, clean, and stock the Health Center, and purchase first aid supplies when necessary;
• Track and maintain all KSS medical supplies;
• Attend and facilitate all staff meetings and trainings as assigned;
• Attend meals in the Rives Dining Hall as assigned;
• Candidates age 21+ with a minimum of 5 years driving experience will be required to participate in and pass Van Driver Training, and they will be required to drive a 15-passenger van;
• Abide by and uphold the policies and procedures set forth by KSS;
• Other duties as assigned.

• Strong work ethic and will work until the job is complete;

• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form;
• Multi-task efficiently while managing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced, changing environment;
• Superior customer service skills, with the ability to be creative and think ‘outside the box’;
• Strong command of communication, writing, and organizational skills;
• Effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds and different levels of experience;
• Ability to work in a busy environment with many distractions;
• Write incident reports and lesson plans with attention to detail.

Our required education, experience, and certifications:
• Licensed Physician, Licensed Physician’s Assistant, or Registered Nurse;
• Current First Aid and CPR certifications, from an approved vendor, or the ability to obtain before the first day of employment (not required for Physicians and RNs);
• Medication Administration training and certification, from an approved vendor, or the ability to obtain before the first day of employment (not required for Physicians and RNs);
• Candidates must complete a pre-employment physical exam;
• Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license;
• Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check.

In addition to the above required talents, our ideal candidate will have these preferred skillsets:
• Desired computer skills include proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Adobe;
• Comprehension of the Spanish language via written and/or verbal form.

Travel Expectations:
There will be limited travel within Summit County, Colorado.

The office space is small and the employee must have the ability to stay focused while others are working in close proximity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works outside in various weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
