Environment Teaching and Community Project Coordinator
The Officer would be responsible for taking managing and developing the Frontier Teaching & Community Projects and associated extension projects such as workshops, holiday programmes and childcare. The Officer will offer a valuable service to the local community within which they are working by providing essential skills such as teaching English and other subjects, and managing volunteer placements within the community in line with Frontier’s structured outreach programme.
GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE ROLE
– Development and implementation of new projects / placements through liaison with local organisations, national authorities, and international agencies;
– Planning and overseeing all project logistics and schedules;
– Developing Frontier’s structured outreach programme to accommodate the needs of local communities;
– Placement and management of volunteers;
– Administration and control of field budgets and production of accounts and reports to London HQ;
– Responsible for all liaison with placements, including daily communications and regular visits.
– Teaching English classes, other subjects or helping with community activities as per the agreed schedule.
– Feedback reporting to London HQ on all project activities including daily diaries of volunteer movements;
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
– Liaison with collaborating organisations, including possible project donors, local counterparts, the local University and with any other entities as appropriate in order to finalise the existing projects and to develop new collaborative links and projects;
– Taking initiative to continually develop Frontier’s outreach programme;
– Securing and organising volunteer placements, accommodation and transportation;
– Planning and implementing schedules of work for volunteers and supervising this work throughout the project;
– Teaching English or other subjects and running other community activities with and for local schools, orphanages and health centres;
– Supervising and arranging arrival of the new volunteers including travel and accommodation and in country briefing;
– Ensure the health and safety of all volunteers, project staff and host-country participants at all times, dealing with any medical incidents should they arise, being ready to initiate and implement an emergency medical evacuation procedure if necessary;
– Maintaining regular communications and ensure the transmission of all communications to London HQ, including provision of regular progress updates to the Operations Managers;
– Management of the project’s in-country expenditure in line with the quarterly field budgets provided;
– Production of project reports and updates to a schedule agreed with the Operations Managers;
– Production of project planning documents and funding proposals together with the Operations Managers (UK);
– Management of local employees, and where necessary the employment of new staff and payment of wages;
TERMS & CONDITIONS
Contract Duration: 6-12 months
Accommodation: Basic accommodation provided
Travel: Capped contribution towards an international airfare provided plus internal travel as necessary to the fulfilment of duties.
Insurance: Employer’s liability insurance provided.
Subsistence: Food provided on project site. Subsistence allowance provided for time spent off project site.
Salary: £150 – £200 (per quarter) depending on experience and qualifications. Plus £150 end of contract bonus.
Training: BTEC assessor training & pre-departure training provided.
