National Park Service– Hot Springs National Park

Length: Term of positions is 16 weeks; full-time 40 hrs/wk

Location: Hot Springs, AR

Living Allowance: $375/week

AmeriCorps Award: Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $1612.43 (pre-tax).

Title of Position: Youth Interpretation and Education Intern

Position Details

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

SIPP in partnership with Hot Springs National Park are seeking an intern who will help increase visitor natural and cultural resource understanding of the park through educational programs and improving the park’s digital presence.

Position Responsibilities will include:

Updating existing web content on the park’s webpage
Creating new curriculum-based lesson plans
Providing weekly interpretive/educational programs
Creating new topic-specific web pages
Completion of training and mentorship sessions

Minimum Requirements:

Make a full 16-week commitment
Comfortable with public speaking
Ability to think creatively and critically
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Bachelor’s degree or at least 120 hours toward a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental education, education, history, communications, computer science, digital media or any related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience writing for websites
Experience working with Adobe products such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
Strong project management skills
High level of attention to detail
Background in education, teaching, or environmental education
