Environment Community Educator AmeriCorps
The Community Educator AmeriCorps will provide assistance with implementation and maintenance of KTMB’s Adult and Business sustainability education program, designed to raise awareness about common environmental issues that lower the quality of life, health and economy in the Truckee Meadows through engaging presentations and workshops, outreach events, KTMB’s Recycling Guide, and the Nevada Green Business Program. KTMB’s Adult and Business sustainability education program empowers and provides community and business members with solutions to live more sustainably, whether it be at home or at work.
The Community Educator AmeriCorps position is an essential member of the KTMB team. You will work primarily to implement KTMB’s Adult and Business education program by giving formal presentations and workshops to businesses, organizations, and community groups. You will be involved with the coordination and implementation of KTMB’s River Walks, as well as other community educational events. You will also have the opportunity to work with our youth education team to give presentations to K-12 students throughout Washoe County. In addition,you will maintain the high quality of KTMB’s Nevada Green Business Program including outreach, recruitment, certification, and recognition of green businesses in the Reno and Sparks metropolitan area. You will also maintain and update KTMB’s database of community recycling resources, in addition to acting as a KTMB’s representative during community events to encourage volunteerism, awareness, and appreciation of our natural resources.
KTMB is a private, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a more sustainable and beautiful region through waste reduction, education and active community involvement. For over 30 years, KTMB has been dedicated to the beautification of the Truckee Meadows, advocacy for a cleaner community and region, massive volunteer cleanup efforts, and education that inspires action.

Timeline for Service: September 7, 2021-August 12, 2022
Assist in the enhancement and implementation of KTMB’s Adult and Business sustainability education program, primarily through formal presentations to businesses, community groups, and organizations throughout Reno and Sparks;
Assist in the coordination and implementation of KTMB’s Quarterly River Walks and other community educational events;
Assist in the certification and recognition of green businesses in Reno and Sparks, including workshops and trainings designed for recruitment and certification;
Maintain and update KTMB’s Recycling Guide database of community recycling resources;
Maintain and develop current relationships with community members and businesses;
Assist with other KTMB programs such as the Sensory Garden, Youth Education efforts, and other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, or a related field;
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
Exceptional writing skills;
Strong communication and public speaking skills;
Strong organizational skills;
Strong leadership skills;
High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
Good sense of humor;
Preferred: experience with sustainability in the workplace setting;
Preferred: reading, writing and speaking competency in Spanish language;
Preferred: experience with event planning and implementation.
KTMB’s Community Educator AmeriCorps position is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is your chance to be the greater good! Each AmeriCorps member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency. In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $15,100 for the year, health benefits during their service and have the option of receiving a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,345.
