Environment Program Coordinator AmeriCorps
The Program Coordinator AmeriCorps will work to implement and enhance KTMB’s programs and community outreach initiatives. KTMB’s programs are designed to inspire community members and students to be stewards of our community’s land and water. The Program Coordinator AmeriCorps will also work to coordinate, train and recognize volunteers.
KTMB’s volunteer program is multifaceted. KTMB volunteers serve in a variety of ways; as Board and committee members, Project Leaders, special event volunteers, one-time and repeat volunteers. KTMB volunteers are all ages, from all walks of life, and from diverse neighborhoods in the Truckee Meadows. They have a hundred different day jobs, but they all come together to participate in KTMB’s cleanup initiatives.
The Program Coordinator AmeriCorps will be an essential member of KTMB’s team. In this position you will maintain the high quality of KTMB’s volunteer program including training, managing, recruiting and recognizing volunteers. You will empower community members to be stewards of the environment in the Truckee Meadows and work with our education team to give presentations and provide service learning opportunities for schools and community groups. The Program Coordinator AmeriCorps will also provide environmental outreach to the community in the Truckee Meadows to encourage volunteerism, awareness and appreciation of our natural resources. Finally, you will help implement and maintain KTMB’s new project and data management software and will continue the precedent of high quality maintenance of KTMB’s volunteer registration database.
KTMB is a private, 501 (c) (3) nonprofit dedicated to creating a more sustainable and beautiful region through waste reduction, education, and active community involvement. For over 30 years, KTMB has been dedicated to the beautification of the Truckee Meadows, advocacy for a cleaner community and region, massive volunteer cleanup efforts, and education that inspires action.
Service Location: Reno, NV
Timeline for Service: September 7, 2021-August 12, 2022
Implement volunteer training protocols and assist with volunteer management for KTMB’s programs;
Assist in coordinating KTMB’s annual programs including The Great Community Cleanup, Truckee River Cleanup Day and Christmas Tree Recycling
Conduct site orientations and lead volunteers for KTMB’s Adopt A Spot and neighborhood cleanup program;
Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and appropriate tools for volunteer cleanups;
Facilitate volunteer retention and appreciation events throughout the year;
Recruit community volunteers;
Update and maintain KTMB’s project management and volunteer database;
Work with KTMB educators to help the community learn about local recycling resources, watershed health, and invasive/noxious weeds;
Develop and implement service learning opportunities for schools and community groups;
Support the maintenance of KTMB’s Sensory Garden in Idlewild Park.

Experience working with volunteers;
Preferred: experience in volunteer coordination;
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree;
Preferred: experience with event implementation;
Preferred: experience working in a park or outdoor setting performing community beautification or conservation work;
Preferred: Reading, writing and speaking competency in Spanish language.
KTMB’s Program Coordinator AmeriCorps position is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and will serve within the AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps is your chance to be the greater good! Each AmeriCorps member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency. In return for their service, AmeriCorps members receive a modest living allowance of $15,100 for the year, health benefits during their service and have the option of receiving a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $6,345.
