Job Description

Apprentice (6-24 months experience or ground workers level 1-2) $17-$20/hr
Job requirements include having the ability to: identify most local trees; begin learning about tree biology; climb and move around tree canopies using MRS (moving rope systems) techniques; complete most pruning tasks on small and medium sized trees with moderate supervision (easy-moderate difficulty in most cases); tie knots used in climbing applications (termination knots including: double fishermans; buntline; anchor bend; figure 8; follow through; bowline with a yosemite finish; and alpine butterfly/friction hitches including: swabisch; distel; blake’s hitch; VT; and knut); identify proper tie in and redirect point with moderate supervision; set climbing lines from the ground and advance to final tie in points; set climbing lines from the ground using monkey fists and throw lines; use a chainsaw on rope while maintaining two points of contact (climbing line and flipline) with moderate supervision; use climbing spikes to dismantle small- and medium-sized excurrent trees with moderate supervision; ascend into canopies using basic SRS (stationary rope system); perform basic rigging in a tree using natural crotch rigging and simple false crotch systems; set up and operate bucket trucks or lifts with supervision; continue ground operation tasks upon finishing climbing tasks, as well as being trained in and receiving continued training in aerial rescue.

Level 1 (24-48 months experience) $20-$23/hr
Job requirements include having the ability to: continue to advance ID and biology knowledge; determine proper climbing technique to employ per situation (MRS; SRS; climbing removal with climbing spurs); set climbing and rigging lines from the ground in medium and larger trees with little supervision; inspect climbing gear daily with little supervision; set SRS lines and work medium to large excurrent trees using simple SRS techniques (ability to identify and employ basic basal ties; canopy ties; and which system may be more appropriate based upon tree structure or species); tie a variety of knots used in climbing and rigging operations with little supervision (rigging knots including: cow hitch; timber hitch; running bowline in a tree from any position; and running bowline with a half hitch/ability to discern advantages and disadvantages of knots used); perform basic in tree rigging; including basic limb removal; basic load sharing techniques; and top down block rigging; understanding of load ratings; SWL (safe working loads) and limits of rigging equipment (understanding the difference between static and dynamic loading and the pros/cons of each/basic understanding of green log chart and how to determine safe rigging systems); use a chainsaw in tree with little supervision; set up and operate bucket trucks or lifts with moderate to low supervision; perform most in tree tasks with moderate supervision; make good choices and safe decision with moderate input from supervisor or more advanced climbers; and to perform aerial rescue.

Level 2 (36-72 months experience) $23-$26/hr
Job requirements include having the ability to: ID most local trees and shrubs; ID and determine treatment options for local plant health care issues; ID and deal with or work around tree biomechanical issues that may be hazardous to people or property; advanced knot knowledge; perform tree removal at an intermediate to expert level with little to no supervision; assess and determine the best climbing system per situation with little to no supervision (expert SRS and/or MRS climber); assess and employ complex tie in situations to increase safety and efficiency within a tree (ability to double tie; employ hybrid systems including SRS MRS combinations and secret weapon systems; and to use natural and synthetic redirects to deal with complex climbing situations); to climb and prune the majority of trees with little to no supervision; using throwlines to solve complex situations (ability to double bag and to retrieve left and stuck tools using advanced throwline techniques); removing the majority of trees employing a variety of rigging techniques with little to no supervision; can build and employ a variant of complex rigging systems to employ for given situations advanced situational rigging ability with little to no supervision; setting up and operating bucket trucks or lifts with little to no supervision; performing the majority of in tree tasks with little to no supervision; making good choices and safe decisions with little to no input from supervisor or more advanced climbers; performing aerial rescue; Certified tree worker or certified tree climber a plus; certified or working on arborist certification; and CDL or working on testing.

Foreman/Climber (60+ months experience) $27-$30/hr
Job requirements include having the ability to: perform the majority of in tree tasks with little to no supervision; make good choices and safe decisions with little to no input from supervisor or more advanced climbers; perform all climbing and rigging operations without supervision; communicate effectively; delegate tasks effectively; guide and teach new employees and more inexperienced climbers; be knowledgeable of NPTC operational software including but not limited to Arbor Plus; chip drop; Google Drive; GPS maps and Slack; provide good Customer service; be a certified Arborist; CDL License; TRAQ a plus; and CTSP a plus.
