Job Description
Triple Divide Lodge is the only program of its kind. In our 90-day program, we combine residential and wilderness therapy treatment for adolescent males 14-19. We help young men struggling with substance use disorders and other related co-occurring issues. We help clients overcome their substance use issues by getting outside of their comfort zones and experiencing the growth the wilderness inspires.
Wilderness Instructors work 40 hours a week on campus between the extended backpacking trips that they will be leading. We find that this “On Campus” time is critical so that the Wilderness Instructors can build rapport with the clients and help clients develop the skills they will need in the Wilderness. This is a combination of technical skills and the “soft skills” like the resiliency to adapt and overcome challenges.
Wilderness Instructor facilitate daily physical fitness activities – ranging from cardio to hiking to running to yoga – and engage with clients in everyday activities. This active role in the daily allows the clients to have positive role models and see integrity in action.
Don’t get me wrong, this can be a challenging position, as maintaining boundaries and deescalating clients who have large feelings is a daily occurrence — but there is also the reward of being apart of our clients journey and those moments where you see your hard work has paid off.
Compensation
This is an hourly position that is eligible for overtime. We have estimated that the yearly earnings for this position is between $39k and $43k.

What we are looking for in a Wilderness Instructor:
-Extreme comfortability in the wilderness year round leading a group of young men who have little to no experience.
– Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT.
-Ability to teach both by example and breaking things down step by step.
-Must be able to engage in all types of outdoor and physical activities.
